Jason Hawkins MISM ALCM LRSM MusB(Hons) PGCE is an award-winning Musician, Artist and Writer based in Yorkshire. Jason has worked for the UK’s leading arts organisations including The Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Singers, The Armonico Consort, The Exon Singers and The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). As a Pianist and Organist, Jason's performances have been broadcast on ITV, Irish TV, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Cumbria. The BBC recently featured Jason's playing as part of an upcoming documentary about Helen Fielding, the author of Bridget Jones’s Diary which is due to be released in Autumn 2020. Since 2020, Jason has produced for the independent music label Vividae Musica™.
As a Pianist and Organist Jason has performed extensively throughout the UK and Europe. This has included performances at major venues such as The Royal Albert Hall (London), The Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), Symphony Hall (Birmingham), The Sage Gateshead (Newcastle), Mechalan Cathedral (Belgium), The American Cathedral (Paris) and Disneyland Paris amongst numerous others.
Jason is in demand throughout the UK as a Choral Conductor, Choral Animateur and Musical Director working in both Classical and Musical Theatre contexts. Currently, Jason is Musically Directing 'Oliver! (Lionel Bart)' in Wakefield although the performances are currently postponed due to COVID-19. In 2019, Jason was appointed Morley Music Society's permanent Musical Director opening their 77th Season with Mendelssohn's Elijah and a sold-out Christmas Extravaganza. Jason has held a variety of Director of Music, Organist and Choirmaster postings at large parishes within The Church of England, Church of Scotland and Methodist Circuit and was recently appointed as Organist for St Mary's Church, Woodkirk.
As a Composer and Sound Artist, Jason's work has delighted audiences across the UK. Jason catalogue includes works for Children’s Choir, Male Voice Choir, Acapella Choir, Orchestra and Piano. Recently, Jason composed a suite of original piano music for Grades One to Three standard full of unexpected musical bumps, twists and turns. The Piano Wizardry™ series. These are published exclusively by MusicWings™ Publishing Ltd. In 2021, Jason has been commissioned to produce Sound Design and Compositional work for Choir, Radio and Theatre. Jason is a fully qualified and registered teacher, alongside being a ISM Registered Private Teacher. Jason teaches the Piano, Organ and Music Theory throughout Yorkshire at a variety of schools and also tutors at university level. Additionally, Jason owns a thriving face-to-face and online private teaching practice based in West Yorkshire. Numerous pupils are ABRSM Diploma Level and preparing for Conservatoire and University entrance.
Jason also has considerable experience working within charitable, mental health settings and recently worked regularly with ex-offenders. Additionally, Jason is currently a Trustee for Ramsbottom Music Festival.
Initially, Jason studied supported by a scholarship at Chetham's School of Music receiving the Michael Abraham Piano Prize for Piano Sightreading and continued his musical studies at the Royal Northern College of Music. During this time Jason also became a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM). Following the RNCM, Jason graduated from The University of Manchester in 2014 with a first-class honours degree in Music, specialising in Piano and Composition. In 2018, Jason completed a PGCE in Primary Education at The University of Cumbria and the following year became an became an Associate of the London College of Music (ALCM) in Music Composition. Currently, Jason is in the final phase of completing a MA in Education at University College London. Recent research includes "COVID-19, a choral education opportunity or threat?".
